Cabin Fevers Collection

In early 2014, I was introduced to Ekin Ramble and Archive Mind through Soundcloud, and they sent me a couple instrumentals. One song that I wrote, Red Light, made it onto their Cabin Fevers Collection, available on Bandcamp and as a limited-edition cassette tape.

Red Light

Driving through the neighborhood,
climb into that cave and look
plywood block my shaking foot,
follow lights into the tunnel took

a breath and rode the soaking carpet to its end,
past the cactus and the addicts found around the bend
called the phone again, lost my way along the dimlit path,
walked into the wall, talked to obstacles equipped with ass

and pulled the last alarm, still I walked the flat with plastic arms,
the flaccid glassy bong pressed against the clasp of the lab rat’s wrongs
opened gums and silken robes showed the hole that I would rent to own,
never knowing it was sewn that I would go and grow the song

gloat upon the bent penny spent plenty in my Denny’s den,
writing out with any pen the novel of machete men as long
as it will never end,
from where it began with a clef note,
left me out in the deaf cold, vent me now till I ex-plode,
best we vow to hang ourselves, west of eden, left of hell
because heaven knows i’ve got my reasons, but still I’ve got to tell
these heathens

i got the red light, so I turn left,
listen to the sound of up and down till my death
got the green light, so I go ahead
listen to the sound of up and down till I’m dead x2

Walk into that basement, looking for that taste and
trade in all that cash in exchange for the bravest
I’ve hated and aided these people in my chasing
that life I can’t lay because I’m focused on the place and
it’s pacing that I fail at, jumping high to bail fast
if they don’t last a potato pass,
put a gaping hole in my face still packed

bound to blame it for my pain if they could know what i go through daily
like I’m mayor of chicago, gone away because I’m so-so daley
gonna play these by the number, painted on the fading plaster made
in the image of a man lost at sea because he’s half the gasoline
he needed, kneeling in the pew for healing the wounds he dealt
his demons, just trying to find some kind of meaning in the class of me you’re dealt

it’s help for leaving but I decide
to skip that, felt the wall to find
my way / in the map of riff-raff
drive into the cliff that / fed me ego, id and /
did what it said it didn’t,
i listen till I’m a veteran with better written’s
got my set already memorized, it’s all a vision

i got the red light, so I turn left,
listen to the sound of up and down till my death
got the green light, so I go ahead
listen to the sound of up and down till I’m dead x2

Sitting on the dock of the bay that doesn’t fade away
only when it stops does time remind you it still plays
9to5’s got its brights shining in my eyes all day
telling you to get a job, and sign right here to die today

try to trade my raps for food, but that don’t work if they laugh at you
the faith I won’t collapse into, got the cavities and the crown to boot
Lie awake when the sun’s out, when I can’t sleep and I’m bummed out
and the pantry is all runned out, no food or shelter can come down
with bob barker, name my price, too low, too high, too much to count
that guy don’t know his stuff so now, I’m out of hours, down to drown

that chained life with an anchor spliced into my veins and nerves so I feel the ground
got the frame right for the night lights, the paint shining on my only sounds
the same life let it tangle up, my father lived and then follow him, got the taste of blood in my mouth
gonna play for the pounding ache if it’s found and curse the town that birthed him
blame them for my boring doubts, first defile the virgins and then to trial around we crowd

i got the red light, so I turn left,
listen to the sound of up and down till my death
got the green light, so I go ahead
listen to the sound of up and down till I’m dead x2
